Wendy Pailthorpe

B.App.Sc. (Nursing); M.App.Psychology

Wendy PailthorpeWendy is a registered psychologist having completed a masters degree in Clinical and Educational Psychology in 1996 from Murdoch University in Perth WA. Wendy and Alan have 2 children now aged 21 and 27.

Before turning to psychology, Wendy was a registered nurse for 15 years working in a variety of hospitals and community health settings, including Indigenous Health for 2 years in a rural town in the South-West of WA. From this experience she has maintained a special interest in the health and well being of indigenous Australians.

During the transition phase from Nursing to Psychology Wendy worked for a range of clinical service providers in WA. This included the Alcohol and Drug Authority residential detoxification centre, the Disability Services Commission, Psychiatric Outpatients of the Fremantle Hospital, and Community Health Outreach Family Services in Kwinana. Wendy was heavily involved with the Young Autism Project, a research project designed to replicate the impressive findings of Professor Ivar Lovaas from Los Angeles who is a world renowned Applied Behaviour Analyst working with young children with autism. She worked as part of the research team but also with the children on a 1:1 basis in their homes. Although Wendy does not do this type of intensive work with children anymore, it has provided a solid evidence-based approach for her work with families of children who are experiencing developmental delay.

Wendy moved to Queensland in 1995, and since then has worked primarily in private practice. Since moving to the Gold Coast hinterland in 2000, Wendy has been running a small private practice based in Nerang.
